The 2025 Vikings Group ACT NSW BMX Freestyle State Championships promised to be a showcase of rider talent and they delivered by the truck load. Riders were not phased by the 30 degree plus temperatures and the contest was hotter than the weather.

The younger riders showed us the massive progression they have had since last years event, and the older riders put on a masterclass.

Riders traveled from all parts of east coast Australia to take place in the second annual Vikings ACT/NSW Freestyle BMX Titles held at the legendary Tuggeranong skatepark! The riding was action packed, with riders as young as 7 (Reid Townsend) throwing down big backflips and transfers; all ages categories were hotly contested and proves that the future of BMX is very bright.

Elite women BMX star, former Canberran & Backbone BMX repper Sarah Nicki was in attendance, showing the crowd why she is now on the Australian Olympic team and traveling the world riding BMX.

She easily took out the Elite women’s category and showed a lot of support to up and coming riders in the other categories.

The Elite men became a shootout between the previous years’ gold medalist Will Spedding and Victorian Nathan Freman. With only a point separating the two, it was Nathan who claimed the gold and bragging rights as 2025 Elite Men State Champion.

It was epic to see the 30+ Masters category; complete Canberra legends riding together in a competition format, it was like watching an event from 2008 or something. Great to see the smiles on all the crew's faces too.

We’ll see a lot of these riders heading to the National Championships on the Gold Coast February 15/16, and coming back to Canberra for the State Titles in 2026!

Huge thanks to Vikings for their continued support of this event, if you haven't been to one of their venues, make sure you check them out and enjoy all they have to offer.

We greatly appreciate the ACT Government in supporting this event, Minister Yvette Berry understands the importance of supporting emerging sports like freestyle BMX, so a very special thanks for getting behind the 2nd Annual ACT/NSW Titles.

Thanks also to AusCycling for their help with the event on the day.

Will Spedding may not have grabbed the gold, but he dropped jaws and earned the respect of everyone. His runs were insane! Big double downside whip over the six to bank. Photos: Riley Elliot.

Sasha jumped back on the BMX and showed why he should continue to be multi-disciplinary... Killed it on every ramp.

Jake Gruber pumping out the backie flyout for the fans. This is Jack Gruber's nephew!

Nathan Freman rode Tuggers like it was a 5ft tall skatepark, going massive and not intimidated by the big ramps at all. Big flair on the 8ft.

This is the huge 360 whip that blew everyone's mind... The street spine at Tuggeranong does not get messed with like this very often!
